myGPS FAQs

The kind of work God usually calls you to is the kind of work that you need most to do and that the world most needs to have done…The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.
(Frederick Buechner)

Why should I serve?

GracePointe Church’s most valuable asset is its people – you!  In tapping into this most precious resource, we want to provide you with the opportunity to connect with a purpose, through your own unique gifts and skills, so that you will experience the passion for and the commitment to serving others, simply by doing what you do best!

Does GracePointe really need me to volunteer?

ABSOLUTELY!  Each person’s life touches so many others, and our church family and ministry will certainly thrive and flourish when everyone willingly and enthusiastically contributes to the common goal of taking care of each other and our church home.

How do I get involved?

Simply fill out the MyGPS online registration survey.  You’ll be able to answer some questions about your unique talents, skills, and gifts as well as explore the many different kinds of service opportunities available.  A member of our staff will then contact you regarding the ministries in which you’ve indicated interest.

What is expected of me?

Key responsibilities and time commitments vary from role to role.  To guide you toward your ideal ministry location, the basic framework of each opportunity is outlined on each ministry’s individual page on this  website.  Should you ever have any questions after you begin your service, please be sure to talk with your team leader.  Open communication is always the best method to ensure that the serving opportunity is a good fit for both you and the ministry.

GracePointe volunteers should treat others (adults, youth, and children alike) the way that they, themselves, would like to be treated.  All volunteers are expected to honor their attendance commitment, to be on time, and to fulfill their responsibilities in accordance with the individual service opportunity guidelines.  We realize that emergencies do arise; therefore, if you are unable to arrive on time, perform your key functions, or attend your service commitment entirely, please contact your team leader as soon as possible.

What if I want to volunteer, but I’m not sure if I have the time?

Because people are compelled by different schedules as they move through the seasons of life, a person’s available time can vary from 40 minutes a month to 40 hours a week.  As a result, we are completely committed to offering diverse opportunities so that anyone wanting to serve can find a role that fits into his or her life.

What is the purpose of GracePointe Church and myGPS providing, in writing, information about gifts, service & working, their volunteer culture, these FAQs and service opportunity descriptions?

We provide these written pieces as guides toward helping you be as successful as possible in your volunteer service.  We do appreciate that offering written, guiding principles and service-responsibility frameworks help leaders and volunteers by providing complete clarification and comprehensive expectations of the program and service opportunities.  Furthermore, full understanding of the volunteer culture and service responsibilities is the foundation for providing the consistent implementation and quality of GracePointe’s programs.

How accurate are the service opportunity descriptions for each ministry?

Please keep in mind that the service opportunity descriptions are merely guiding frameworks to aid in your understanding of and success in a particular ministry area, and depending on various circumstances, certain aspects of your actual service may differ from the description.  (For example:  Your frequency of service in an individual area may be affected by the amount of people who have volunteered for that particular opportunity.)  However, please use the service opportunity descriptions as the base upon which you make your service decision and build your expectations.

What if I have questions?

If you have a question or concern about anything in the handbook, please feel free to ask your ministry team leader or anyone on the MyGPS Leadership Team.  GracePointe is dedicated to the idea that communication and collaboration will help define and refine a joyful and respectful environment.
